AHH!! the rewards of the finisher

IRON MAN

Last Sunday October 10, 2010, 1800 people got up before sunrise to go for a little swim, they started at 7 a.m. and swam in the ocean for 2.4 miles after that, they got on there bikes and took a 112 mile ride in countyside of Kona Hawaii, then to cool down they did a 26.2 mile run. Those that finished will be able to brag forever that they completed the "Hawaiian Iron Man". It has been said, that it is not bragging if you can do it, and most of those people were able to do it. Take a gentleman named Lew Hollander he finished in 15 hr and 48 min he was 80 years of age. Harriet Anderson the last person to cross the finish line before midnight, if you do not finish by 12:00 a.m. you don't finish, her time 16:59:13, she had 47 seconds to spare, she was in the 65 to 69 age bracket. Triathlons are unique among sporting events, because regular people, if you can call someone, a regular person, who can finish an iron man event, anyway they compete right along side the elite athletes. There are also diabled athletes at these events, they still have to cover the same distance in the same time periods as every one else. On a personal note, I hope that in a couple years from now to be one of those 1800 people getting ready to start my day with a little swim in the ocean at Kona Hawaii.
